#AI will be one of the most important election issues in the United States. Up there with abortion, immigration, and guns.

Not because it is a tech story. It's more than that, it's a power story.

Andrew Chow's cover piece profiles nine people fighting back. A pastor. A former Google engineer who worked on Gemini. Two activists from Oklahoma. A former Steve Bannon staffer. The parents of Adam Raine, who died by suicide after seeking guidance from ChatGPT.

Different states. Different backgrounds. Different politics.

Same fight.

They're pushing back on data centers straining their communities. 

AI companions targeting their children. 

Jobs disappearing. 

Energy costs rising. 

And nobody in power asking their permission.

Right-wing and leftist operatives are signing the same tune, even if for different reasons. They're running for office on anti-AI platforms. They're flooding town halls. They're winning small battles.

And politicians are starting to pay attention.
